A 33-year-old man has been charged after allegedly slashing the face of a bayside woman in her 70s in an attack police say left the woman "traumatised".
The woman, who is a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, was looking after her sick husband in their Oceana Terrace home when she heard a noise in the hallway on October 29. Thinking it was her husband, she walked down the hallway and instead was allegedly confronted by a stranger with a knife who slashed her across her mouth.
He left the house empty handed and the woman was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she received 40 stitches.
The man has been charged with break and enter, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wounding.
