A CHINESE man studying at QUT supplemented his meagre student income by driving sex workers to jobs around Brisbane, a court has heard.

Dai Gang Wei, 23, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday to engaging in prostitution through an unlawful business and to possessing tainted property while he held the casual taxi job between July and December last year.

Prosecutor Sergeant Robin Rochfort said Wei was studying a bachelors degree in Australia, had a student visa and a life which was almost wholly funded by his parents in China.

He said Wei was discovered when police arrested the ringleader of a Brisbane-based prostitution syndicate known only as "Jessica" late last year.

Sgt Rochfort said police searched Wei's inner-city apartment and found several messages to and from the ringleader, who was also known as "Vi" or "Vivian", on his iPhone on December 8.

During the search, Wei took police to a grey-coloured Holden sedan which had been parked in his garage and showed them a Garmin navigation device - which he allegedly used to take the woman to various addresses - and a plastic bag containing women's lingerie.

Sgt Rochfort said Wei received $30 in cash per trip for driving sex workers employed by the syndicate to and from various jobs around Brisbane.

The court was told Wei took the money to help supplement an allowance he received from his parents while he was living and studying in Australia.

Defence lawyer Sue Ganasan said taking on a job as a taxi driver for prostitutes was "a silly way of supplementing an income".

She said Wei had one year of study left before finishing his degree and hoped to do further post-graduate study in Brisbane.

"He's since realised that employers in his home country would be horrified by his involvement in illegal activities," Ms Ganasan said.

She said Wei had co-operated with police and said the lingerie found in the car during the search had been accidentally left behind by one of the women.

Magistrate Christine Roney said Wei's offending was serious and "sustained criminal activity by an intelligent person".

She fined him $1000.

这帮死鸡头, 挣钱是自己的, 出了事就让学生来顶锅, 真不是东西, 华人中的败类.

这同学这辈子算是毁了, 以后 谁想攻击他, 就把这新闻发给他的上司, 老婆,丈母娘,街道大妈...... . 以后不要上学了, 还是走黑道吧, 这次算是在法院考了一个上岗证, 以后还可以去监狱修个大专文凭.
