Tourists hurt as minibus rolls down embankment

[size=1.25em]A busload of Chinese tourists have been taken to hospitals in south-east Queensland after a bad accident on the Gold Coast hinterland.

Police say a 20-seat minibus rolled down an embankment on Mount Tamborine just after midday.

Two men, including the driver, were critically injured and were airlifted to hospitals in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Fourteen others suffered minor to moderate injuries and all have been taken taken to hospital for treatment.

Some are expected to be released this afternoon, while others are likely to stay overnight.

Police says it appears the driver failed to take a bend heading down the mountain on Henri Robert Drive.

Crash investigators are looking into the cause of the accident.

Police still probing tourist van crash

Investigations are continuing into a crash which injured 13 Chinese tourists on the Gold Coast hinterland yesterday.

The six adults and seven children landed at the Gold Coast Airport yesterday morning.
Just hours later a mini-van, carrying them to a mountain resort, collided with a 10-tonne truck at Clagiraba.
The truck driver and other motorists rushed to free the injured.
Police Inspector Gary Pettiford says they had some professional help.
"We're fortunate enough to have an off-duty police officer soon on the ... [scene] and also an off-duty paramedic from Toowoomba stopped," he said.
He says police are investigating whether the van was overloaded.
Local residents say the area is a known black spot.
A woman in her 60s and a child were transferred to hospitals in Brisbane, while another woman is in the intensive care unit in the Gold Coast Hospital.
